Have you ever heard about Pan, the Rustic God. Well he is real all right. You know our newish emperor, yeah the one who loves the forest. Well he used to be a lot different before he met Pan. Well he was not that royal when he meat Pan. Would you like to hear the story of how King Williams met Pan. Oh I will just tell you then.
It was the evil day for us Greeks, King Horitanon, the emperor at the time, had been murdered by an assassin of the Persians. Well we did not know who this mysterious assassin was from yet and we learned real fast that no matter what we did, he would not squeak the tiniest bit of information. If that assassin was from Greece, we would have been honored to have their loyalty, but then he would not of assassinated the emperor and we would know nothing of Pan. Now Greece needed to find out some answers and quick. But everyone was too scared to go into the wilderness after the assassination. They did not want to die, but still wanted to honor Greece. So they vowed to protect Greece but not enter enemy territory. This is where King Williams comes in.
The Greek head decision makers decided that they would choose the lowest of the low lifes and send them through the evil misty wilderness. Well the they could not decide. So they announced that any family or man that was willing to enter the famous drawing would each receive money and food according to how many times they entered. Well Williams and his wife were expecting a son or daughter soon and did not have the supplies needed to take care of the new child or themselves. So after weighing the chances, Williams convinced his wife, Thoria, that this would bring nothing but good to the family, they agreed that Williams should enter. But what Thoria did not know was how many times Williams would enter. So Williams knowing everybody was entering at least ten times decided he would enter twelve, “Just enough for my family, just enough for us.” Williams would repeat to himself.
So he ended up not only as a respected citizen but enough money and food to last for years. Then the ear bursting drawing came. “We will choose three men of Greece to go into the forest for answers. You will be need to bring all the supplies you will need, you will come back in a year at the latest or Moraken will take over the empire of Greece and if with information you will become the savior of Greece and the known Emperor of Greece and bring honor to your family. If not with information you will bring dishonor to your family and wish to not of came back at all. The three men are Sir Jonathon Atheneo, Sir Richard Malono, and finally Sir Williams Wothena. You have twenty four hours to report to the town hall of Athens. Say goodbye to friends and family. That is all fellow citizens of Greece.”
Sir Williams put his head in the sand literally, he fainted and landed hard enough in the sand that his head went through the sand. They were on the shore line. His good friend, Yugoish, carried him the whole way home. He did not wake up until five hours later. “Wha-What happened?” William stumbled out of his mouth. “Yugoish informed me that you were one of the three picked to go into the wilderness. I thought you said everything would be ok and you would not be picked.” weeped Thoria and ran out of the room. “No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!” Williams chanted, “This is impossible.” “Sorry my dear friend, Williams I guess impossible says ‘Im Possible’” Yugoish gently said. “ Thank you for your wisdom, Yugoish, is there any more could you give to me?” pleaded Williams. After long thought, Yugoish spoke with all the wisdom in Greece, “ My friend, I will give you advice but you can not questioned it. All the advice you need is never travel on the ground at night but do not stop and rest for long. Eat the least you can but hunt and gather food and water. Never light fire unless it is a life or death situation . And always keep eye out for predators, not just animals but your opponents will not only be after information but each other and you.” This took Williams a while to digest the information and why the advice may be needed. “Now you must rest all you can and eat all you can, I will pack everything you need and do not worry since I do not have yet a family of my own I will look after yours until you come back and I know you will.” Yugoish said. “Thank you Yugoish, I will take your advice and rest some.”
Now what Yugoish packed a light but very spacious bag for Williams. It contained dried, reservable bread; red, green, delicious apples; dried, smoked meat; plenty of water; a camouflage cloak; the best map of the misty forest; hatchet; sword; and bow and plenty of arrows. “If he does this I know the Gods will protect him if he is truly the legendary new bound king of Greece, the Gods have been telling me about.” Yugoish quietly said to himself. “Thoria, come here it is very important.” So Thoria came not weeping cut still crying. “Thoria we must please the gods and ask them to look over Williams over his long journey.” “O – ok” Thoria whispered afraid to wake Williams from his long needing rest. “Oh glorious gods and goddesses please oh please watch over Williams and protect him throughout his deadly journey.” Yugoish and Thoria chanted over and over again for a whole hour. “Now lets get some rest of our own, it is going to be a hard morning. For everyone in Greece.” So that is what they did.
The morning came too soon for everybody in Greece. Williams sadly said goodbye to Yugoish and Thoria and promised he will always remember them. Then slowly in his mind, set out to the Capital of Greece, Athens. He was rowed in a boat all the way to the Athens. He made it barely in time, soldiers were getting ready to set out for his search. “You are lucky, if you did not come back in time we would of slayed your family.” said Moraken the devious council of Greece at the time, until the new king was in power. “I am so sorry Sir Moraken.” said Williams respectively. “Now that is a good citizen of Greek. Too bad he most likely will not come home.” snickered Moraken.
“Now all of you will set out, you may travel together or alone but only one of you will live, now set out.” chuckled Moraken. “Let your believed gods be with you, but if you fail I will be the new, superior King of Greece.”
Secretly Moraken was never a Greek, his name was not even really Moraken but Helsothon. He was the son of the Persian king and was sent to come up with a plan to destroy the Greek empire. His plan was to a year before the murder of King Horitanon, he killed the real adviser of Greece, Moraken, and played his role secretly leading Greece to disaster. His plan was to kill the king, sent men out that would never return, and take the place of the old king. So far so good for Helsonthon.
So the three men set out not knowing when they would be see their family again or in time to become king. The walked for hours in silence. Sir Richard who was not in the best of shape and people called the roundness of the world. Over time he could no longer be seen by Williams or Jonathan. “How long will we be traveling, the sun is going down?” Jonathan questioned. Jonathan was not used to all that much hard labor. So this was not the best journey for him. He actually came from a rich family and did not plain to work. His plan was to get Williams to do all the work and himself take the credit. “You can stop whenever you want. I am not stopping. And I have my methods. You will not stop me from returning to my family, not you our Richard. No matter what I am prepared for the unexpected.” Williams said in a calm voice. This sent shivers down Jonathan’s back. “Fine then, I was hoping we would become good friends.” Jonathan sneered. “No you just wanted me to do all the work, and leave me for nothing. You would of taken all of my supplies and leave. Just because you are rich does not mean I have to obey you now. Now that we are on this journey.” Williams fiercely said. “Now when I leave you do not follow or we will have problems, problems your advisor can not solve.”
That is exactly what Williams did, he turned to the east and sprinted off. Before Jonathan could process it Williams was out of sight. “You dare run away from your future King. When I am king I will send out men to kill you for your disloyalty to the King.” Jonathan yelled at the top of his lungs. “Now who is going to do my work.” Jonathan said on accident outloud. “I will my Lord” a mysterious voice said “Ahh, Richard do you not know that that is a crime, to scare the King of Greece” scold Jonathan. “Sorry my Lord. Your wish is my command, my Lord.” Richard politely spoke. “Now this is going to be good.” Jonathan laughed. “Now we must hunt Williams down.”
But what Jonathan and Richard did not know is Williams actually just perched on the tree next to them. He ran for a meter, dashed into a bush, than when neither of them was looking climbed up the tree. So he knew all about there sceam. Thankfully his camouflaged clock concealed him from sight. He knew all along that something was up between those two. Now he knew, his conscience was correct.
The first night fell into place and when Richard and Jonathan were preparing to sleep and eat, Williams was traveling from tree to tree. Now he took about thirty minute half naps half awake. Then he would travel for an hour and repeat the process. He a whole twelfth with that process in a week. Now I know what you’re thinking when did he eat. Well sometimes he would eat while walking and running, sometimes while resting. The progress of Richard and Jonathan is much less. They traveled about a fourth of the way Williams traveled. By this rate Williams would be at the heart of the forest in forty two days. All the way through in eighty four days, into Persian territory. His plan was to secretly enter Persian Territory, kidnap the record keeper, steal the records and return back to Greece in time. He figured if he traveled this way the whole way there, he would have enough time, two hundred eighty one days, to get back to Greece. He only decided to travel this fast for two reasons. One is he would have a struggling Persian with him, a lot more weight, which he would give a lot to the Persian, to take care of and another mouth to feed a little. They would have to stop more and longer. He also had another part of his plan, he would carry the most important text of them all, the records of the plan to kill the Greek King and destroy the Greek Empire. He was using the sun to travel east because the sun always rises in the east. This is how he would not get lost.
Now Jonathan and Richard did not really have a plan established quite yet. They thought this journey would be easy. They quickly learned that they were wrong. Their food supplies was at a low, they were lost and had no clue where to go, fought with each other vividly, and worst of them all was they lost the trail of Williams. “Which way is north, which way is east, which way is south, and which way is west.” Richard moaned. “This is why we should of stayed to the path Williams was taking!” yelled Jonathan “But guess who lost that trail, any guesses, YOU faget brain! So stop your complaining.” Richard had already told the same thing over ten times already, “I already told you his trail went up to the trees and never came down, how was I supposed to know which tree he went to next.” Now Richard started to walk away from Jonathan. “Where are you going, you can not leave your future king, I can punish you for not being loyal to me when I am king.” screeched Jonathan. “Any where but with you, my highness.”sneered Richard.
So now all three of Greeks were separated. All was going according to plan for the Persians. A messenger from the Persians came to Horitanon (Moraken). “You know the King is getting anxious. If you do not succeed you will be slayed instead of the Greeks.” the messenger sneered. “My father would never kill me. He does not have the guts. Just like he sends other people to do his dirty work. That is why you have came here. If he had the wits he would have invaded Greece by now, and you would not be his little, unimportant messenger.” Horitanon said in a fierce, firm, loud voice. “Liar! Liar, yeah that is all you are.” the messenger screeched. “Well you can tell my father that the mission is going according to plan. By the scouts, two per person, messaged the company has split. The Greeks are getting suspicious though. Do not worry the plan will succeed.” Horitanon gently said with a smirk on his face. “Fine then, I will write down exactly that.” the messenger said gloomily. “Now leave at once, without another word, or it will be your tongue.” Horitanon harshly said. Now that the messenger felt threatened he left and followed Horitanon’s command. But what Horitanon did not tell the messenger was that the scouts only knew where Richard and Jonathan were, not Williams. This is what was driving Horitanon mad. He had no way of knowing where he could find Williams, his trail was lost. “At least Greece does not know that every second they wait for those men to return, they are losing hold of Greece.” Horitanon said to comfort himself.
So now when Horitanon was thinking of plans to find Williams, Williams himself was on the move from a hungry pack of wolfs. Unfortunately for Williams, when you get a three twelfth of the ways there means you run into a plain field of grass and weeds. So instead of being able to seek coverage in the trees, he was in the open. So it was convenient that something was trying to kill him. He was surprised it was not anything human, like the Persians, instead it was around twenty purebred beasts. They were everywhere, you would look left and find three stalking you, six to the north, five to the south, and six to the west. Williams was basicly the center of a circle and attention. You might see the center of attention as a good thing, but not for Williams. He was always shy when it came to getting attention. But now he was not shy, but full of fear that he would die and not see his family ever again. He thought to himself, “No matter what, I can not die. I must fight, not only for my family but for Greece.” So he pulled out his arrows and the bow, aimed and fired. Bullseye, he hit one. Well this infuriated the wolfs, to see a thing be able to kill there kind without having to go near them. The wolfs started to move in, making the circle smaller and smaller. This act made Williams put up the bow and arrows, but not be defenseless, he pulled out his sword. Williams facked charged one wolf, and that wolf backed off, then came right back. So Williams decided he would let them come close enough to be able to pounce, but before they pounce he would swing his sword a three hundred sixty degrees, a complete circle, and get rid of the wolfs for good. That plan worked to the T. The wolves started to squeeze the circle. Williams patiently waited. Then he sticked, it was perfect. Now he had fur and meat to last him for along time. “Now I have to find a river and the trees. The river will clean both my sent and the wolfs, it will also clean this deep cut in my leg, and the one in my shoulder, hopefully I will have enough cloth for the wounds.” Williams spoke aloud to himself.
So he went the path he was going before the wolves had came up. The path continued to go east. All he knew was that if he went east from his location he might just land in Persia or near Persia in time for him to return, and see his family again. He kept wondering Richard and Jonathan were doing, if it was really the right thing to leave them, how his wife and new coming child were doing, these thoughts is what motivated Williams and also brought him down. You see this journey was not only hard physically, but mentally as well. He was always half starved needing to preserve his food, he knew what he needed to eat and what he needed to save. So that is what he did, he smoked the meat he got from fishing and hunting, and ate the fruit slowly, and drank lightly. Now Richard and Jonathan on the other hand ate whatever they found, right away. No saving food for them. This did not turn out well for them, they were always looking for food instead of traveling to the destination, the were actually starving, and were lost in the misty forest. This means no food, no location, and most of all no rescue. If you do not know your location, how is anybody suppose to find you. No food means you will eventually die from starvation. “Boss, all I can think about is food, FOOD!, it sounds so good in the mouth. FOOD!” stumbled Richard, “Ha, I just came up with a song for it. Food, FOOD, so glorious is food, food, food, food, FOOD. It is so wonderful is food, all I want is food again, food is so good to me. FOOD, FOOD, FOOD, FOOD, FOOD!” Richard sang over and over again. “Will you just shut up! I am hungry too but you don’t see me singing another person to death about it!” Jonathan screamed. “You know what I just realized, you scream like a little girl, not a man, men don’t scream. You also want to know something, this pack of ours is about to break up, yeah I am going on without you.” Richard said with this key note of extreme anger in his mind. “You will die without me, I do not need you anyway. GO! Go and see if I care.” screeched Jonathan. “Fine” Richard yelled, “Fine” Jonathan screamed. “Fine” Richard said then walked calmly away from Jonathan.
So now the three men were all going their separate ways, even though they were on the same mission. This was the plan for the Persians, and all seemed according to plan. They would send out diversions to stall them. Well the Persians only knew exactly where Jonathan and Richard were, and no clue to where Williams may be. Little did they know Williams was five twelfth of the way through the forest. This means it has been five brutal weeks in the wild, thirty five days without civilization. Williams was almost halfway through the forest. So he knew he could not slow down for anything. He always had plenty of food but water was always scarce. So he kept moving, deeper and deeper into the forest. Then out of nowhere something ran right behind him, and it was fast. Williams could not tell what it was it looked to be a man but also an animal. This frightened Williams more than the wolves. At least he knew what he was facing with the wolves. “Do not fear me, I can help you save Greece.” a mysterious voice called out. “Who and what are you” Williams yelled. “I will tell you once you have calmed down, I am not here to hurt you. Just relax and I will show myself to you and answer every question your heart desire, since I know everything in nature.” the voice spoke.”How do I know you are not a trader and with the Persians, prove that you are really with Greece and I will lower my weapons.” yelled Williams “How do you not know, has no one ever told you about me? I am the Greek Rustic God Pan, I am the god of shepherds and flocks, of mountain wilds, hunting, and rustic music. Tell me you have at least heard of my famous pan – pipes.” stamerd Pan. “I have heard none of those, but if you say you are the god of mountains why are you in the forest, and tell me three reasons and I will put down my weapons.” Williams said more calmly. “Ok that sounds like a deal to me. First, this forest of yours is very slowly going to become a mountain in thousands and thousands of years from now. Second, can’t a god who loves nature be in a forest near civilization to check up on the people of Greece. Thirdly, I was sent by the other gods to tell you how to save Greece from Persia.” Pan completed with. So as part of the deal Williams put his weapons away but his sword being able to reach just incase this was a fake and a threat. “Do not feel threatened. My unseen presence usually do this to you men, rouse panic. I will show myself to you eventually but first, follow my voice and I will safely lead you to my home.” Pan said from the east. After going over the pros and cons, Williams decided he would follow Pan only because Pan’s home apparently lined up with his path. That and he would get there safely for no price. Well if this had happened before the wolves he would of highly rejected the invitation, but now that he had an idea of what was out there, there was no better choice. Plus Pan might give Williams food, water, and shelter for a while and hopefully information about the Persians and what he knows. “Fine I will go with you. But if you lead me into danger I will not be the only one who is going down, you will too.” Williams spoke with a thickness as if he was being strangled. “Over here now, remember follow my voice and I shall lead the whole way there.” Pan loudly said, “How about you actually follow the sound of my pan – pipes.”
So that is how it went, Pan played elegantly on his pan – pipes, while Williams slowly followed behind. They traveled night and day, without rest. “Hurry on now, we are almost there my friend.” Pan anticipated. “Then may we rest, we have been traveling night and day without rest. I usually rest a half hour, then move an hour.” Williams desperately said. “Yes, you may rest. I will have duties to attend to. My faithful servants will do full fill all your wishes.” Pan said. What Williams did not know was that Pans servants were all animals, no humans. Well Williams did not even know what Pan looked like quite yet, so it made sense that he thought the servants would be human and that Pan would too.
Pan and Williams finally made it to Pan’s home, well Williams found a note saying ‘My dearest friend, I have went out to find us some meals for the next week and to do some arriens. You may rest in the guest room, one of my loyal servants will lead you there. There will be a little food for you. Your friend Pan.’ “So I still will not know what he looks like quite yet. Well at least I will get a chance to look around and learn what he is like, and to see his servants.” Williams told himself.
Pans house was actually a mixture of a den that lead into a hill and an underground fortress. He had nature everywhere, well his house was all nature. There was nothing that was not organic. Williams was amazed with the pure beauty, of the house that Pan had possession of. Then a goat came up to him grabbed hold of his shirt, with his mouth, and pulled. Not knowing why Williams followed and was lead to the guest room. Pan was not lying he had laid out various types of food. From hand picked berries to freshly cooked fish. There was the softest bed that he ever felt, the material in the inside was pure plucked feathers from the finest swans ever to life. The quilts were made out of fine silk and sheep wool. The bedroom was amazing. The royals in Greece did not have such luxurious items in their possession. No one ever would, not even when there were flying chariots. Now Williams decided he would eat some of the food and then sleep for a little while, but he would not spend more than a day in this palace like place. So that is what he did. He made a meal for himself, consisting bread, fish, berries, potatoes, and some fresh milk. After what seemed like a feast, he was very weary and went to the bed and just collapsed.
While Williams was asleep Pan returned and spoke to his servants. “Ahh thank you, you will be rewarded with an extra carrot in your meal. See that when he is ready he comes to my study.” Pan said while rubbing the goats chin. So he made way to his study, to learn all he could about what the Persians were doing to harm Greece. So throughout two days and two nights Williams slept and slept while Pan was discovering Persia’s evil plans. Finally when Williams awoke, he was lead to Pan, in Pan’s study. Now for the first time he saw what Pan really was. Pan was half man half goat. He had the legs, horns, and hoofs of a goat along with a snub nose and pointed ears. The rest of him was human. Williams stood there staring there in a trance, amazed by what he was seeing. “Are you done staring yet, we have business to discuss. I also find that very offensive.” Pan said with great force. That snapped Williams out of the trance and he politely said “Sorry Pan, I apologize for my rudeness.” “Apology accepted.” Pan gently said “Now we must discuss what we will do about the Persians.”
So that is what they did they discussed what must be done while the sun set and rose five times. “Then I must go back immediately but what evidence will I have against the Persians that the fellow citizens of Greece will believe.” Williams said with desire in his voice to save Greece. “You will have me and all the other gods to support you, I will come with you to Greece and reveal myself to them. This will convince them and scare the Persians to no more war, I will come no matter what you say and that is final.” Pan fiercely said making Williams positive no matter what Pan was coming. “Fine, when will we leave then?” Williams questioned. “We will leave after the sun has rose three times. I will pack then rest, I suggest you do the same.” Pan wisely gave out. “I trust your wisdom, I will do as you advise.” Williams gestard.
That is what they did they packed all they could but still kept their packs light. The sun rose three times and the pair set out with incredible speed, stopping every now and then to listen and rest. They traveled twice as fast as Williams did alone. They were at Greece’s gates in no time. “Hoult, who goes there?” The Gate Guard One said, “Only Me, Williams, and a god, Pan.” Williams said. “Show yourself, or do you fear Greece?” Guard number two said. Pan and Williams came out and Pan said with great commanded “I do not fear Greece I fear for Greece’s future, if you do not let us in these gates you will be destroying Greece, and Hades will have no mercy on you.” “Yes my lord.” The Gate Guards at the exact same time in sequence.
So that is what happened, they entered Greece with the guards at their side making sure they had no farther trouble. You might think Greece is undefended now, but you are wrong the left tower guards and locked the gates. The were lead to the meeting grounds while gathering a great crowd of people. Pan went up one a statue and spoke fairly and gracely to the people of Greece. “Now fair people of Greece, I am one of your undiscovered gods, I have been sent out on a mission, to save Greece this one time. You have traitors in your great palace who actually belong to Persia. I will explain everything later, but if you do not over through the people I say and crown Williams you all will be responsible for the destroying Greece and I will tell Hades to have mercy on no one that is alive and revolts against me. I am sorry for having to frighten you but if this does not happen Persia will kill. They will not have mercy. Please I am asking you help me save Greece and bring honor to your family.” This frightened the citizens but they wanted to help and they were willing to kill anyone that would hurt Greece. “Now who is with me!” Pan yelled out with pride. The crowd roared with the answer “I am all mighty one!” “So let us go save Greece!” Pan cried.
This was not a battle like they were expecting only a few would fight against Greeks own, and those who did were Persians. So in the end Greece had redeemed full power and were not manipulated by the Persians. “Actually they got a messege from Helsothon “THEY LIFE, THEY LIVE! THE GREEKS AND THEIR GODS LIFE!” he cried over and over again. So in the end Williams and his family low lifes and ended up the most royal family in all Greece.
That is the story of how Pan and Williams saved Greece and how Pan is now one of our most loved gods. This is the only things that they learned about Pan but Pan told all about himself and the other Gods to Williams and Williams told others all about the gods. So that is how we know the gods really do exist.
